If you didn’t make it to the Mohawk tonight for Free People’s Exile in Austin catalog release with Austin’s own, the Happen-ins, here’s a lil rundown.
The event was easily full of Austin happy hour time fashion at its best. While it’s always so fun to people watch and to gaze at other people’s vast array of vintage-modern-had these for years-punk rock-teal suede etc shoes, tonight was a whole other caliber of dress. It was extremely fitting that the Free People catalog party was filled with people who looked like they had, in fact, stepped straight out of a Free People catalog. Crochet tops, airy blouses, cut off shorts, sky-high wedges and traffic stopping jewelry were all present, accounted for and impossibly lovely to see. While the shoot was initially going to take place at Old Settler’s Fest, a last minute band cancellation caused a shoot reschedule and they opted for some images around the 512 and at Mohawk with Austin’s own the Happen-ins and photographer Alexandra Valenti.
Afterward, we enjoyed dinner at one of my personal favorite haunts, East Side Showroom. The ladies we met were lovely and so sincere and genuine about their love of their jobs and company and it was refreshing as a lover of fashion and their brand in particular, to leave with no sense of disillusionment whatsoever. While Free People, Anthropologie and Urban are all different, the one thing they have always managed to do is capture and offer a sense of revived, yet naturally whimsical, lifestyle to the general public and it was so lovely to hear that each corporate office fully embrace that mindset in their day-to-day work as well. No cubbyholes here! If you missed this evening, be sure to watch for the latest catalog and sign up for their mailing list here. Your Friday night venue just got a heck of a lot more glamorous did it not?
